Island House

This project is located on an island in West Cork. The compact design is to provide more accommodation for the clients. The approach is to have an element of the building underground to integrate It into the beautiful and wild context. The entrance is formed as a passageway between the building and the hill, creating a dramatic sense of arrival. The house is clad in a charred timber finish to ensure a low-maintenance material.

The plan is designed around this sheltered outdoor space, that is both screened off from passing boats and the south-westerly winds. The living spaces of the house connect to the outdoor space to create a blurring of the threshold.
