Macroom extension

This project is located in the centre of Macroom highstreet. The site is a steep, sloping site from the existing building that was once a butchers. The client’s brief was to maintain the existing building while creating a modern family room to the rear. This design is a narrow, stepped and sensitive response to the site, the neighbours and the context.

The extension is marked with an internal courtyard that signifies the threshold between the old and new and allows south light deep into the plan. The main living spaces are in the extension while the bedrooms are housed on the first floor above the shopfront.
